Frequently Asked Questions

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆) is a greenhouse gas with a very high Global Warming Potential (GWP). Due to its environmental impact, its use is increasingly regulated in many regions. Within the European Union, the use of SF₆ is restricted under F-gas regulations, and further limitations and phase-out measures are being progressively introduced where technically and economically feasible alternatives are available.
SF₆-free switchgear eliminates the need for fluorinated gases while maintaining high performance and reliability. In addition to reducing environmental impact, air-insulated technology can simplify maintenance procedures and reduce end-of-life handling and decommissioning requirements.
Our cost-effective, green SF 6 -free switchgear technology helps you contribute to a sustainable environment and lower your maintenance and decommissioning costs.
Our switchgear panels are designed for a service life of at least 30 years under normal operating conditions.
The vacuum circuit breaker, earthing switch, and cast-resin insulated components are designed to be maintenance-free under standard service conditions. Routine inspections are recommended to verify proper operation and ensure long-term reliability.
Unlike SF₆-insulated switchgear, air-insulated systems do not require gas pressure monitoring or periodic tank tightness checks.
We manufacture air-insulated switchgear panels with the following standard ratings:
12 kV
BIL: 28/75 kV
Rated current: up to 4000A
Rated breaking current: up to 40kA
Internal Arc Classification: IAC AFLR up to 40kA/1s
17.5 kV
BIL: 38/95 kV
Rated current: up to 4000 A
Rated breaking current: 31.5 kA
Internal Arc Classification: IAC AFLR 31.5 kA/1s
24 kV
BIL: 50/125 kV
Rated current: up to 2500A
Rated breaking current: up to 31,5kA
Internal Arc Classification: IAC AFLR 31,5kA/1s
36 kV
BIL: 70/170 kV
Rated current: up to 3150A
Rated breaking current: 31.5kA
Internal Arc Classification: IAC AFLR 31.5kA/1s
Yes. Our switchgear panels are type-tested for operation in both 50 Hz and 60 Hz systems.
Our switchgear is designed and type-tested in accordance with IEC 62271-200 (latest edition). Type testing is performed in internationally accredited laboratories, including CESI and KEMA, which are recognised members of the Short-Circuit Testing Liaison (STL).
In addition to type testing, each functional unit undergoes routine testing before shipment, in accordance with IEC 62271-200, including:
· Dielectric tests on the main circuit (Clause 7.1)
· Tests on auxiliary and control circuits (Clause 7.2)
· Measurement of main circuit resistance (Clause 7.3)
· Design and visual inspections (Clause 7.5)
· Mechanical operation tests (Clause 7.102)
A routine test certificate is issued for each panel.
Customers are welcome to witness routine testing during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to confirm compliance with project specifications.
Yes, our switchgear is arc-proof. TE Energy switchgear is designed and type-tested for internal arc classification (IAC) in accordance with IEC 62271-200.
Depending on the rating, panels are certified for IAC AFLR 16 kA, 25 kA, or 31.5 kA for 1 second. Internal arc testing is performed for each compartment as specified by the standard.
Optional pressure relief systems (gas exhaust ducts) can be supplied to direct exhaust gases safely away from operating personnel, based on the specific substation layout.
The vacuum circuit breakers used in our panels are capable of interrupting fault currents within approximately 16 milliseconds. This is the industrys fastest arc-fault interruption technology.
We typically use indoor, cast-resin, support-type (post-type) current and voltage transformers, selected according to project requirements.
We work with established manufacturers such as ALCE Elektrik, KPB Intra, RITZ and others. Upon request, we can also supply digital current and voltage sensors suitable for smart grid and digital substation applications.
We supply microprocessor-based protective relays selected according to the project specification.
The range includes basic overcurrent protection as well as advanced Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) offering protection, monitoring, and communication functions compatible with Smart Grid applications.
We work with recognised manufacturers, including ABB, Arcteq, Fanox, Schneider Electric, Siemens and others, based on customer preference.
Our switchgear is suitable for primary and secondary distribution systems up to 36 kV.
Typical applications include:
· Utility substations
· Industrial facilities
· Mining operations
